He stirred up a hornet's nest by sending
out Namma autos and now Mansoor Ali Khan is coming up with a new wing called
Makkal Auto- auto rickshaws by and for women. This initiative by Mansoor Ali
Khan is indeed commendable and we are often forced to think that even after the
Delhi gang rape incident what exactly has the government done in order to make
women feel safe in every corner of this country.
It’s after Nirbhaya’s incident only, our
government realised that yes, women in our country are not safe and we need to
do at least something for them to feel safe in this country. But why now? Why
at the cost of an innocent’s life? If at all they had pink autos running in the
beginning itself then today Nirbhaya would have been alive.
And we cannot blame the government entirely
for this; there are a lot of instances where we just choose not to help the
victim just because either it’s not happening to you or you just don’t care
until and unless she means something to you. How can we choose to be so selfish
and just ignore such crimes? One thing we don’t realise is that if today it’s
her, tomorrow it can be you, your sister, mother, wife or your daughter.
There are these small steps that can
actually make a difference all that you got to do is be more alert and help
others. Do your bit for the society and for the women safety in Chennai.
Mansoor Ali Khan didn’t wait for the government to start for such women
friendly autos in the city, instead he chose to make a difference and did his
bit for the society so that we can travel to any corner of this city without
the fear of being harassed.
